Reiki in the Loire Valley

ReikiMan moved to the Loire Valley with his partner in 2004

PoullaouenWhat made you move to France and how long have you lived here?
We moved here in 2004, both from busy professional careers, me in Education, him in Mental Health and Social Care.

We came to renovate our beautiful old house and barn because we KNEW it was what we were supposed to do - we are both healers and knew that THIS is where we were supposed to work....

I know, I sounds crazy, but it was non-negotiable!

Which part of France do you live in, and what's it like to live there?
We live in the Loire Valley, dept.36. It is very rural, very agricultural and open, but on the 'Chateau Circuit' - Valencay is home to the 'bottom chateau, owned by Tallyrand, Napoleon's Foreign Minister. There are few other English people around - our nearest friends area 25 minute drive away. It seems necessary to have this level of peace in order for us to do our work properly.

What is your age?
I'm 54.

Where were you born?
I was born in Cornwall in the UK.

Do you work, if so what do you do and how difficult was it to find work or start a business in France?
My partner and I are both auto entrepreneurs, he as a writer, I as an animateur - this means I am the one who runs the business side of our retreat; organising the courses, facilitating them.

I also still do a little bit of teaching, under my 'professeur' umbrella.

Your best tip or advice to other people considering moving to France?
Do your homework.
Know that the language can be an enormous challenge.

Decide whether you want to live in FRANCE or LITTLE might make all the difference as to whether you make it or not.
Make sure you either have a transferable skill.....or plenty of money!

Did you find it hard to integrate or adjust to your new life in France and do you have any tips to help others?
Yes. Where we are there are only 3 other houses, 2 of which are only occupied in the Summer. ALL our neighbours speak only French.

Our nearest town is 15km away - think carefully about how much you want to replicate your previous environment.

What's the best thing about living in France?
For us, not having an alarm clock - and all the implications of that!

The weather is great, food (here anyway) is wholesome, fresh and still muddy!

And....we are able to fulfil our destiny, to be Healers and to make a difference to people who choose to come and see us.

And the worst?
The language IS pretty hard and the curries are rubbish!
