The coypu is a mammal originating from South America, introduced in Europe at the 14th century for the exploitation of its fur. Although the coypu is mainly active during twilight and night time, it can also be very active during the day. Although only introduced to a few French departments for fur production the coypu is now present in more than 70 departments. It has colonized areas such as the Poitevin marsh and the Camargue or the Moors. The coypu is an animal preferring to live in an aquatic environment of fresh water.
