The Lorraine Region

LorraineLorraine is situated in the north east of France and is made up of four departments: Meurthe et Moselle, Meuse, Moselle and Vosges. It borders three other countries - Belgium, Luxembourg and Germany. Although some parts of the region are heavily industrialised with iron ore mining and quarries there is still plenty of it's original landscape of dense forests, farmland and the mountain ranges of the Vosges which popular with skiers in the winter season.

Perhaps the most famous inhabitant of Lorraine was the French national heroine Joan of Arc who was born in Domremy la Pucelle. Her home has been preserved and is open to the public.

Lorraine is famous for it's cuisine most notably quiche Lorraine and Andouille a kind of sausage made from tripe.
