Haute
Normandie or Upper Normandy is a region in the north west of France that is made
up of the departments Eure and the Seine-Maritime. Formerly it was joined with
Lower Normandy but was divided in the 1950's into two separate regions.Bordering the English channel and touched by the Gulf Stream Normandy enjoy a mild temperate climate and is easily accessible from the U.K. Normandy has a beautiful coastline made up of long sandy beaches and cobbled coves.
Normandy is famous for its role in world war 2 and many people come to visit the D-Day Beaches and to pay their respects in the many World War 2 cemeteries.
Normandy is also well known for its cuisine, cider and the famous cheeses it makes such as Camembert and Pont l'Evêque.
Main towns include Bayeux known for its tapestry and Rouen its capital is a pretty town made up of almost Tudor style timber framed houses and site of the Notre Dame cathedral.
