Burgundy
also known as Bourgogne is a region in the east of France that is made up of
four departments: Yonne, Côte-d'Or, Nièvre and Saône-et-Loire. Famous for its
cuisine, vineyards and wines of the same name it also produces Chablis, Mâcon &
Beaujolais. To the west of the region lies the Morvan mountain range.Burgundy's climate is one of cold dry winters and warm summers with ample rain - perfect for growing grapes.
Main towns include Dijon in the Côte-d'Or department which is also the capital of Burgundy. Dijon is a pretty medieval town filled with half timber framed buildings and is famous for its mustard.
Beaune also in the Côte-d'Or department is worth visiting just to see its fabulous Hospices de Beaune, the hospices were built in 1443 are now a museum. Their roofs are made up of a geometric pattern of coloured tiles.
