Located
on the Basque coast in Aquitaine, Anglet forms part of the Biarritz-Bayonne-Anglet
"conurbation". The coast is the main attraction and the beach at Anglet is at
the southern end of the very long (200km) stretch of beach that runs from
Arcachon to Biarritz.
Anglet centre still holds its original village charm, with the church and the
Mairie on a largepaved square . As with many of the resorts along the Atlantic
coast, surfing is popular, as are other beach activities and numerous other
sports and pursuits: walking, horse riding, cycling and golf (including two main
courses).
The Chiberta Forest has large Basque and modern residences nestled in the pine
tree glades as well as the rambling 18- hole Chiberta Golf course. Also located
in the region are the homes of the Anglet Thermes, Tennis Club, Equestrian
centre, the Natural Park "Foret du Pignada", an ice skating rink and marina, as
well as numerous 2, 3 & 4-star hotels.
Highlights

The area between the rock of Cap Saint Martin and the jetty, which marks the entrance of the estuary, has no less than nine beaches. The 250-hectare forest (largest in Europe) is considered to be the green lung of the Basque coast and is also the ideal place for bike riding or just a stroll through the tall pine trees, which were planted under Napoleon III in the middle of the XIX century."Pignada": This rich pine forest spread over 250-hectares, with walking and cycling paths, is less than 10 minutes form Biarritz or Bayonne. The most sports-keen will enjoy a treetop obstacle course.
