Crackdown on Motorists Using Mobile Phones


Using a phone behind the wheel means that your attention is elsewhere!The French government have launched a crackdown on drivers using mobile phones, French statistics show that 41% of motorists admit to occasionally using a mobile phone while driving and that 72% of those drivers feel that they do not put themselves or other drivers at risk by doing so.

Unfortunately this is not the case and using a phone while driving is the fourth biggest cause of motoring fatalities in France, in effect 7% of road traffic accidents could easily be avoided if drivers were to stop using mobile phones behind the wheel.

Marie-Pierre Bruyas head of research in to cognitive psychology says that research shows that even when using hands free equipment the reaction times of drivers is much slower compared to those who don't use a phone at the wheel.

The campaign will run until the 21st of December and will include TV and radio adverts as well as posters.
