The study published this week claims that 26 percent of French women are overweight with 15.1 percent of them clinically obese. French men don't fare any better in the obesity stakes either with 13.9 percent of men in France classed as clinically obese while 39 percent of the male population is overweight.
The map above shows the regions of France which have the highest levels of
obesity, industrial areas in the north of the country are hardest hit while the
Rhone Alpes and PACA fare best.
Doctor Marie-Aline Charles who helped conduct the survey said that urban lifestyles were mostly to blame "Obesity rates have really risen sharply in urban areas where there's a concentration of sedentary jobs, public transport, less need to walk and a much greater availability of food."
