Sunday Trading May Soon Come to France

Sunday shoppingSunday shopping could soon become a reality in France as a new commission by the French government has suggested that allowing shops to open on Sundays and new legislation to relax price controls would help to boost France's failing economy.

Currently the price of many goods in France are set by legislation put in place to protect smaller businesses but the commission has suggested that relaxing this control and allowing supermarkets to be more competitive would help to boost consumer spending.

Sunday trading has been banned in France for over a century and much opposition is expected from workers unions if the government gives the go ahead to allow stores to open on the seventh day. If the government says yes then we could see Sunday opening in some parts of France as early as 2008.

What do you think, is France a better place without 24/7 shopping or would you find it more convenient?
