French fire-fighters are
battling fierce blazes in the forests of southern France today. In Canjuer situated in the Var region around 600 fire-fighters have been drafted in to battle the flames which have engulfed forest in the area, extra planes carrying fire retardant are in use.
Across the border in nearby Italy the heat wave affecting southern Europe has claimed lives and sparked more forest fires.
