We are looking for a good home for our 8 year old English setter dog, George.

George is a lovely natured, playful dog who enjoys the company of people and other dogs (and even cats!). His ideal home would be one with an enclosed garden and perhaps another doggy friends to play with. George is fully vaccinated and chipped. He is a very handsome boy (orange belton coat) and comes from a great pedigree - we have his original Kennel Club pedigree certificate.

We are having to move back to the UK due to financial reasons and will be moving to a flat in central London. Unfortunately we have therefore had to make the decision to try to find a new home for George before we leave (in the next 1-3 months).

George is eternally young at heart and makes a great companion. He equally happy lying in the sun or running around the garden.

It’s our greatest wish that George finds a new family who will love him as much as we do.

If you would like any photos of George or any further information please just let me know. We’d be happy to deliver George to his new home or would like to invite you to come and visit him first if you would prefer.

His chip no. is 826 098 101 455 715.

Hello, I am replying to your notice in "lost in France" about George. We have Two English setters, brother and sister, along with a number of cats so are very familiar with these lovely dogs. We have just moved to France permanently and would consider taking George. If it is possible to send me a little more information along with a few photos I would be very grateful.
This is such a shame for him but if this is going to be possible we would be able to give him a perfect and very happy home. Obviously you will need to be sure of his new owners so I can provide this information of us for you.
I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
Kind regards, Richard & Carmen Moxon.

Thank you so much for your kind email. Yes, we're absolutely heartbroken to leave George behind - we've had him since he was a puppy and love him dearly. Unfortunately our financial position is such that we are having to return to the UK with our two young children. We'll both be working full time and living in a flat in central London - a life very different to what George is used to, and one which I don't think he would be happy in.
Attached are some photos of George which I took just the other day. He really is a handsome boy and extremely good natured. He loves the company of other dogs and people. George enjoys a good run-around but is equally happy lying in the sun.
It would be lovely to know a bit more about your home - do you have a garden? do the dogs sleep outside or inside? do you think your two setters would mind a new addition to the family?
If you would like to have a chat by phone, please do let me know and we'd be more than happy to give you a call at your convenience.
Very best wishes, Michelle & Niels.
PS - I hope these photos aren't too small - the site won't accept large attachments. If you prefer I could email larger versions directly.

Dear Michelle & Niels,
Thank you for your quick reply. George looks beautiful, very similar to our "Lord" who is completely brainless but adorable. Answering your questions, at the moment we are in rented accommodation waiting for our property to be habitable. We are working round the clock on this and expect to be in within the next Six months. The property is in 3.5 ha of land and located in the countryside with more than enough space of fields and woods for all the animals to play. The property is about 600 sq meters in size with 6 floors.
The only problem I can see is that George may not take to being inside during the day. Eventhough this is only for the time being it will certainly be for a few months. Our Two don't seem to be having a problem with this and have adjusted well having been used to lots of outdoor space. Eventhough this rented house is in the countryside with lots of walks on the doorstep, but while we are out during the day restoring, this is my only concern.
We have to go out now for a meeting with the builders but if you could send to me your tel' number I could call you when I get back to have a little chat.
kindest regards, Richard.

Dear Richard,

Many thanks for your kind email. "Brainless but adorable" is just about the best description of English Setters that I've heard! Yes, George perfectly matches that description too...
As for being inside during the day, I don't think that would be a problem. Firstly I presume he'd have the company of your two other dogs so wouldn't be on his own? and Secondly, although he's been outside most of the time for the past couple of years, when we go out he is put into a kennel run and is happy being enclosed in there.
Our phone no. is 02 41 82 32 45. We're around all evening - if by chance I miss your call (possibly upstairs putting the children to bed) please do leave your number and I'll call you straight back.
Very best wishes, Michelle

Hi Michelle,

Just a quick note to follow on from our last conversations. Giving more thought to George and trying to put his best interests first rather than being to selfish, if he was to go to to other lady who is seeing him today this will help Two dogs not just one. Giving George a home and also the lady's dog a companion. This may be better as we already have Two.
None of this is to say that we are changing our mind, far from it as we would love to have George but if this lady can offer a good home it may be better for the two doggies.
Look forward to talking to you later.
Kind regards, Richard.

Dear Richard,

I just wanted to send you a quick update - a very nice couple, Pat and Tony, came to visit George today. They have a girl dog who would like a gentleman companion (luckily she's been snipped!) and I think they would like to have George to live with them. However, they're going to give us a call tomorrow to confirm one way or another.
Would it be OK if, instead of this evening, I gave you a call tomorrow when we have some news?
Thank you so much, Michelle

As you might guess from my avatar, I feel terribly sorry for you and George. I hope everything works out OK. It must be a dreadful position to be in.

Thank you so much for your message - yes, it has been an awful time and the hardest decision we've had to make. But we know that ultimately George couldn't and wouldn't be happy shut in a flat from 8-6 every day - that's no life for a dog who loves life like he does. Anyway, Pat and Tony - a couple we met through one of my postings on these forums came to visit George and are hopefully going to offer him a new home in a couple of weeks. They have a lovely rural life with a companion dog, fenced garden and lovely woodland walks. Through the many tears we've shed we know that they will love and look after George which is the most important thing.
