Not sure if this would help anyone, but here't goes...

There's a 'lunch anglais' in Albi every Thursday, for a group of newcomers (mostly French) who want to practice their english.  They're not so advanced that they can speak only english so it's still mixed... Native english speakers are invited to join us as guests.  This may be just what some English need to sharpen their French also.

This is organized by AVF (accueil des villes francaises), sort of the local 'welcome wagon' for newcomers.  They offer a wide variety of activities, and there's no better way to practice your french than doing things you enjoy with other French people.  It's also a very useful network for practical matters, learning the in's and out's of French life.  (There's one in nearly every city.)

If you'd like more info, just email me at mrsjeanna@yahoo.com (please put 'coffee' in the subject line.)

I'm living in the Loire Atlantique and although my town has no courses for people wanting to learn French, there are cours Anglais. I go every Wednesday afternoon (when work permits) and spend a few hours with those locals who want to learn English. It's a great way to make friends and to put somehting into town. It also builds my French as we chat before and after the lessons.

I would recommend the AVF to anyone looking to settle and feel welcome.
