Diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2003, Lois was forced to give up teaching as she received treatment. She underwent three operations in England to eradicate the cancer before relocating to France with her new husband, John. Her new goal was to recuperate and enjoy a relaxing, rural French life.
Things wouldn’t stay quiet for long at the farmhouse in Les Penins farmhouse for long – Lois and John, both devoted animal lovers, quickly set about taking in a virtual menagerie of animals. The couple welcomed two cats, two dogs, three parrots and many aviary birds to share their new French abode. Chickens and pygmy goats joined them, but Lois was still not content, determined to have a goat that could be milked.
Luckily for Lois, she discovers the local, rare Poitevine breed of goat and when four babies are born, mischief and mayhem ensue. When the seventh goat arrives on the farm, an exasperated John is forced to exclaim, Not Another Bloody Goat!
Full-colour photographs depict the farmhouse, the outbuildings and its charming rural setting. Each animal described is pictured and their lively antics are chronicled in loving detail as they establish themselves as part of this eclectic new family. Lois and John’s story proves that retirement is never boring, that there is life after cancer and that one can never have too many … well, perhaps seven goats is enough? Laugh and learn with the help of Not Another Bloody Goat!
